The CD

Jack B. Nimble of the much respected, internationally acclaimed Green Man Review said of this album

"If you like English dance music, you'll love this CD!"

And we paid him not a cent. - Thanks Jack

As you will no doubt read on the back of the CD you are about to or have recently bought:

"The selection on this album is a mix and match of the music Widdershins has been playing for concerts and dances in and around the North East of England for a number of years.

It contains music from the Celtic tradition, some contemporary tunes composed by the band members or friends of the band.

Most importantly it is the stuff we enjoy playing and that we hope you will enjoy listening to."

The album was recorded at the studio of Charles O'Connor in Whitby.

As a member of the popular and influential Irish folk rock band Horslips, Charles developed his excellent musicianship, his studio skills and his outrageous sense of humour making him the ideal man for the job.

Charles was partnered by sound engineer Paul Whittaker himself a talented performer, teacher and session guitarist. Paul heard things we hoped he would miss and some we never even knew were there.

Let's Have A Ceilidh for the kids and Oldies and a Disco for the Younger People.

Cautionary note: DON'T DO IT!!

In our experience events - especially weddings - do not run to time-table for lots of reasons. If your dance is the usual 8 til 12 duration and things do not run exactly to time, the ceilidh (which is usually first) may not start until 9 or later. Our latest start so far is 10pm when England's World Cup exit went to extra time and penalties, the rock band were booked from 10pm to midnight. How embarrassing is that and do you really want the hassle of sorting that lot out on your special day???

A really good ceilidh is a game of two halves. Part one the sober, brave or talented enjoy some floor space before being joined by the fortified in part two to swing the night away. The caller skillfully ratchets up the dances to suit the dancers and invariably they all call for more at the end of the evening.

But you can't get all of that into a couple of hours you need the whole evening, and believe me the old and the young will both have a great time.

Now for the clincher - You only pay for one band. If a band or disco gives up their Saturday and that of their families for your dance they are not going to charge half price for half a night so YOU PAY TWICE for your four hour dance.

You know it makes sense - one or the other.
